Best Homemade Applesauce Recipe!

Applesauce is one of those things that’s SO easy to make from home and tastes WAY better than the store bought stuff. Plus the ones found in a grocery store have lots of additives like citric acid, water, or sweeteners. Whenever I’m craving something sweet and have some extra apples lying around, I make a batch and freeze a few jars for future recipes! Takes no time at all and I promise you the flavor is like fall in every bite. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 11 apples (Can use any kind and amount of apples, this is just what I had on hand, any more than 15 apples and I’d add more spices, I also used a mix of Honeycrisp and several different kinds from some apple picking, do not use Granny Smith unless you like tart applesauce)
  • 1 tsp Pumpkin Pie spice
  • 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon (better for blood sugar regulation)
  • 1-2 tsp Cinnamon Maple Sugar (I get mine from The Spice House)
  • 1/4 c water
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Wash all apples, cut into chunks- leave the skin ON, that’s where all the nutrients are!
  2. In a large pot on medium heat, add butter, water and spices, simmering until soft (about 15-20 minutes). Stir every few minutes to ensure all apples are soft and mushy. Add more cinnamon/pumpkin spice if you prefer a stronger flavor.
  3. Once apples are softened, remove from heat and put into a blender, blend until smooth. Can add more water to blender if needed but just enough to create an applesauce consistency. Could also use any immersion blender in the pot or a potato masher to mash up the apples.
  4. Store in fridge, if not eating within the week, freeze the remaining applesauce.
  5. This recipe made a 32 oz jar + a 16oz jar of applesauce. Keeps in the fridge for about a week. Enjoy!!
